SAMPLE Return of Title IV worksheet

SAMPLE — not official. This is an unofficial estimate for training and what-if questions. It is not a COD, G5, or institutional R2T4. A certified financial aid administrator must complete the official calculation before any funds are returned. Authority: 34 CFR § 668.22.

Built for aid offices that want a second set of eyes before they open the real worksheet. Families can use it to understand why a mid-semester withdrawal often creates a balance. Chat still walks R2T4 in plain English on every plan. For a projected FAFSA / SAI, use the SAMPLE FAFSA estimator.

How to use this without FTI

  • Use round numbers and a hypothetical student — never an SSN, ITIN, or tax return.
  • Exclude scheduled breaks of five or more consecutive days from the period length.
  • If more than 60% of the period is completed, Title IV is treated as 100% earned.
  • Confirm the official order of return and modules rules in 34 CFR § 668.22 and the FSA Handbook.
